Internally, the Hero uses a 10MP sensor and video resolution is limited to Full HD 1080p. That’s right, no 4K here. (It does offer a 1440p mode, but this forces the camera into a 4:3 aspect ratio.) Frame rate can be set to either 30 or 60 frames per second (fps); there’s no 24 fps option, nor is there the ability to shoot higher frame rates at lower resolutions like the Black-series cameras can. In fact, there are no lower resolutions at all; the Hero can’t shoot in 960p, 720p, 480p, or anything else below 1080p.
For still-image fans, there's a new LiveBurst photo mode, which is a lot like Apple's Live Photo feature. In this mode, the camera snaps images 1.5 seconds before and after you press the shutter button, increasing your chances of getting a great shot, which you can also share as a short gif-like clip. SuperPhoto (GoPro's HDR mode) also touts improved photo quality in varying light conditions.

What is a good GoPro?


14 days later I still hadn’t heard anything, still no money taken from my account and still no news on my camera. I contacted support again who said I should have contacted them BEFORE the 14 days were up so they could follow up on my order. I asked them to check their records as that is exactly what I did, on 6th December. For this mishap they shipped me a free handler (which by some miracle arrived 2 days later). Still no news on the camera but I was assured an escalation was placed on my case so I trusted the process.

And sure, those options could include your waterproof and crack-resistant smartphone, but keep in mind that the best action camera is designed for this kind of shooting. Plus, just because your phone is tougher, it doesn't mean you should risk losing or damaging the thing that keeps you connected to work, family and friends. It's also way easier to mount one of these to your body, car, bike or anything else than your phone.

The HERO4's come with only a few mounts and do not come with Wi-Fi accessories because it's built-in! If you're looking at getting a brand new GoPro and the best of the best, the HERO4 is what you need to look at. In our opinion, the Black Edition at $500 retail is a bit steep and is geared more towards movie makers and professional studios. What we found interesting was the fact that the Silver Edition has a built-in LCD but the Black does not. Is this important to you? Also, the 4K cinema at 30fps with the Black Edition is crazy; however, it eats up a lot of battery. The Silver Edition films in perfect 1080p which is the standard for most playback devices, so going with the Silver as opposed to the Black is more recommended in our opinion.
Don’t let its size fool you. The GoPro HERO5 Session may be small, but as a camera, it’s mighty. It focuses on portability without sacrificing power: it’s only an inch and a half tall, but it records in 4K and it’s completely waterproof. While it doesn’t have the touchscreen interface that other GoPro cameras do, it’s the only GoPro that can fit in your pocket.

Frankly, we’re not bothered by the lack of 4K or high frame rates. For what action cameras are typically tasked with, 1080p is just fine — it’s the content that matters, not the pixels. Yes, we enjoy having the option for 4K when it’s there, but if you’re a casual user, you probably don’t need to worry about this. What’s more, 1080p means you can fit more footage onto the same MicroSD card, and it will take up less space on your phone or computer when you transfer it. This isn’t just a positive side-effect; it could be a real advantage for some users — the same users who would choose to set their Hero5 or Hero6 cameras to 1080p mode for this reason.
With that in mind, I'm not kidding when I say that HyperSmooth 2.0 is a legitimate improvement. Not just in how it stabilizes (although that is definitely better), but also because it's now available in every frame rate or resolution, including slo-mo modes. On the Hero 7, HyperSmooth was available for most modes, but once you got into higher frame rates or almost anything in 4:3 (an important setting for action cameras) you were out of luck. Now, you don't need to remember which settings it'll work with; all you have to do is decide whether you want HyperSmooth on or off.

Since there’s an exposed cut-out on the side of the frame, you can actually remove the USB port cover – just remember to reattach it if you intend to use the camera in water. This means you don’t have to remove the camera from the frame to charge it, or if you need to power the camera for a long period – for a lengthy time-lapse video, for instance – while keeping it mounted.

It's a simple idea, but one that makes you feel more confident you're in the right mode in a given situation. When I was heading out to ride an electric skateboard, for example, I would tap Activity. Later on a hike, I chose Standard as I was shooting mostly scenic or static shots. Beforehand I would often just leave the camera on 1080p/60 as my go-to. That worked fine, but having the taller shot of Activity while riding definitely makes it feel more engaging. The ultra-wide angle lens, 4k recording capabilities, and 12MP image resolution bring it all together.

I have bought gopro hero8 and from the box it has major difficulty connecting with my iphone 11pro.. i have purchased PLUS membership to be dealt with quicker.. no such thing for over a week i am trying to rich the support, it always gives me message that all agents are busy and try again later. like.. WHAT???? there's no way to get in touch with them!!! Also they DID called me back the first time around i've posted same issue i've been trying to get resolved daily.. after 16 hours where it was 7:30 am in UK where I'm based. I should have really go for osmo action instead. GoPro has no acccessible product support now i'm stuck cant even contact them for a refund. I should've bought it on amazon instead of directly from them.

Can GoPro hero 7 take pictures?


It’s not all perfect, though. My issues with the touchscreen responsiveness still remain, even though there have been firmware updates since my original review – some of which were supposedly designed to address the issue. Sometimes taps at the screen aren’t registered, but more often my problem was with swiping into the screen from the edges. This is something GoPro seems to have now improved in the Hero 6 Black.
Ensure you can easily use your camera before purchase. This is an aspect many people overlook when getting a new GoPro, and it can cost them down the line. There are many bells and whistles tied to cameras. Though they might look great, you don’t want a model you aren’t able to operate. That does not mean you have to get the simplest model out there, but you should get one that is in your comfort zone.
If you were hoping for some more practical updates, like improved battery life, then there's not really any news here. While the Hero 8 has an updated battery, it's still 1,220mAh as before. (The difference is that it offers a higher max output, which is needed for some of the new features.) The end result is still the same old "hour or so" of active use. If you're only shooting moments here or there, that's typically going to see you through a few hours of turning it on, off, tapping around and, of course, shooting.
There’s really only one criteria that should matter when it comes to buying GoPro accessories such as the ones profiled here and that is this: does it enhance the quality of your adventure footage? Just as fashion accessories like a bracelet or broach will activate an outfit or the right lens will help you get the most out of your DSLR, GoPro accessories should allow you to get more from your adventure cam. They should open up new documentary as well as expressive pathways and present your activities in new and unexpected contexts that conjure the much sought after “Oh wow!” response from your audience.
The thing we were more disappointed to find lacking in the Hero is ProTune. On other cameras, ProTune enables advanced exposure controls and the option to pick a flat color profile better suited for postproduction. While we don’t expect Hero users to care as much about a flat profile, we definitely would have appreciated having the option to set exposure compensation. Our experience with other GoPro cameras has taught us that setting the camera to slightly underexpose leads to better results on bright, contrasty days — this is something you just can’t do with the Hero.
This isn't technically a feature on the camera, as it's in the app, but it so far only works with footage shot on the Hero 8. It's often difficult to keep the camera perfectly level, especially if it's extended on a pole. Your lopsided footage can now be easily (and automatically) fixed in the app. GoPro's app already had a basic leveling tool, but it couldn't help with varying levels of lopsidedness over time.

Is there a GoPro App for Desktop?


Boost mode, on the other hand, needs to be used judiciously, I feel. I tested it while hiking, for example, and the lack of lateral movement almost makes your video feel like it's running in slo-mo. It's useful for situations where there's a lot of high-impact, sudden movement. Or, conversely, minimal movement (like blogging or talking to camera), but for certain activities, it might make the action feel muted. There's also that crop I mentioned earlier to consider -- if you need the wide field of view, which action sports generally do, you're losing some here. Either way, it's nice to have the option.
GoPro’s entry-level camera for 2018 is its least exciting to date, but that’s kind of the point. It’s a no-frills action camera that emphasizes simplicity and ease-of-use over raw power, and it bears an equally no-frills name: Hero — no number, no color. It lacks the high-end specifications of the Hero6 Black, and is even outclassed by 2016’s Hero5 Black, but at $200, it brings core aspects of GoPro’s current Hero family to the lowest price yet.
GoPros can be used as standalone cameras, but thanks to a great mobile app, they also pair perfectly with Android and iOS devices, allowing you to add more functionality and versatility. Using built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, users gain full control over their GoPro camera and can even display a live feed of what’s being captured right on their mobile device.

Is GoPro still the best action camera?


The reason I ask what you will be using it for is to determine which set of features you need. If you're going to be using it for simpler activities, don't go all out for a Black edition with a 60fps, 1080p cam (all HERO3's are 1080p, anyways). The reason the Black Edition is so expensive is because of the crazy quality it has, and if you're using it for a more simple basis I wouldn't worry about the difference. The Silver or even White is perfectly fine for you. The main difference between these two is the white's camera has a 5 megapixels with 3fps burst while the silver is 11 megapixels with a 10 fps burst -- is that worth $100 to you?

I got every transcript from my chat. now it's time to go to police, as this comapny took 300+euros, and don't even care about return them. no proof of transaction, every agent put some "note, urgent flag" on this case, yet noone give a s... about it. No, honestly though, who runs GoPro? It’s like some kind of pyramid scheme where they pretend to be a normal online business store, but secretly (or not so secretly) they are just out to swindle money from the people that actually enjoy using their products. Much like most of the people commenting, I’ve had an awful experience with the GoPro ‘support’ team, after being charged twice for an order, being blatantly lied to and misled, I find myself still waiting on my refund for the money they withdrew from my account after 6 weeks and over 15 interactions with the ‘support’ staff. “The refund was processed on the 28th of November, you should have received an email and the money should be in your account” oh ok, that’s funny, there seems to be no money or email and also no mention of this in the past 8-10 conversations I’ve had with the support team since November the 28th. So yeah, don’t ever use their online store for anything, the worst business I’ve ever dealt with by far, they take zero responsibility for any of their actions or inaction and their incompetence is on another level
I have been getting a lot of questions about which type of GoPro camera one should buy if interested. I first think it is great that you're looking into finally getting one, especially after watching the latest events on TV and all of the great camera angles they were able to capture of the professionals. I've had mine for 2 years and could not be any happier. Just last weekend I attached it to my dog on our hike and posted it to Facebook and got some likes from a few cute girls (because likes mean everything, right!?). I'll post the video later this week. I digress, and provide you with some tips when deciding to purchase your GoPro. We also highlighted the difference between the GoPro Hero 4 and 3+ cameras, so be sure to read that for some more help!
QuikStories is GoPro’s answer to the question of what do you do with all of the footage, time-lapse sequences, and photos you took from your last adventure. To use the feature, you’ll first need to install the additional GoPro Quik app (find it on iOS or Android). Quik can see all of the videos and photos on your phone — whether they were shot on your GoPro or not — and will create an automatic edit that combines them into something easily consumable in your Facebook or Instagram feed. You can set some basics, like the mood and duration, and the app handles the rest.

With the Hero 8, the UI has changed again. You'll still swipe left and right to swap modes. Likewise, swiping up from the bottom or down from the top gives you access to the same screens as before (gallery and settings, respectively). What's new is the addition of shortcuts to preset settings. For example, hop into video mode and you'll find Standard, Activity, Slo-Mo and Cinematic presets, along with the option to add your own. The idea is to present you with optimized settings depending on what you want to do (and remove the guesswork).
This company should not be allowed to trade. They have NO customer service department and it is impossible to speak to anyone. Be warned. It is like dealing with a robot who knows only one word. They are a disgrace. I purchased a HERO8 on 3rd Dec and was told 3 day delivery. There confirmation email said I would be contacted when it was shipped. There was no tracking info or contact details on the email. It is now the 9th Dec and nothing. I'm going to have to get PayPal to refund
You get many of the same shooting modes you'd find on a GoPro device, such as time-lapse photos and videos and slow motion footage at 1080p at 240 fps, and there's even a Drive mode so you can use it as a dash cam when plugged into your car, automatically turning on when you start your car and off when you stop it. It's not waterproof on its own, but a dive housing is included as well as several mounts, two batteries and a charger that simultaneously powers up both packs. It also has built-in Wi-Fi so you can connect to a smartphone and use an app to control the camera and transfer your shots for sharing.
However, dumbing down the features while using the same touch-based interface has created some oddities. Trying out the Hero after using one of its more capable siblings feels like returning to your hometown after being away for a while, only to find everyone has closed up shop. All the buildings are still there, but many of them are simply empty. The user interface is the exact same as the Hero5/Hero6 Black, but tapping on some settings loads menus with a just a single choice where the other cameras had many.
GoPro made something of a comeback with the Hero 7 Black, and the Hero 8 builds on that success. While the core camera remains the same, the whole user experience feels much more refined. Some users will be bummed their filters are no longer compatible, and we’d always appreciate better battery life. Most importantly, the Hero 8 increases the odds of your footage being worth sharing, and that’s what it’s all about.
I ordered a GoPro at the beginning of October with their trade in deal (send in your old camera and get 25% off go pro hero 7 silver). I sent my old camera off and a few days later got an email from GoPro saying the payment could not be processed so I called them up to sort it out and they told me my order had been cancelled. The next day, I ordered another GoPro hero 7 in silver with my student discount. The following week I check my bank account and they have taken out payments for 2 orders! I called them up and they said they could not do anything about it as both orders had been shipped, I would have to return one and get a refund with the 30 day money back guarentee. I did that and was told I would get my refund within 7-21 days... It's now been OVER A MONTH and I havn't got my refund.

All GoPros have a waterproof rating that’s expressed as a depth; for example, most of them are rated as waterproof to ten meters, meaning you could swim about 30 feet down with your GoPro camera and it would still work. However, some users want to push those limits even farther, and for them, GoPro makes the “Super Suit,” a reinforced plastic housing designed to withstand water depths to 60 meters. If you’re shopping for equipment for deep-sea photography, plan on getting a Super Suit for your GoPro.​​​​​​​
The brand new Hero 4's are even more powerful, hence the hefty price of 5 bills with the HERO4 black. They come in either a Black or Silver Edition; however, there's also a new budget-friendly choice called the "HERO" which has some essential features to work with at around $130. I love the fact that GoPro brought this into the market to give us a choice -- i'll be buying a few of my friends one for Christmas.
