Two new features -- Digital Lenses and Capture Presets -- make their debut on the Hero 8. Both are really shortcuts to existing things, but like everything else on this camera, they do a good job making things easier to use and understand. In short, Digital Lenses is a new home for all the different fields of view settings (SuperView, Wide, Linear and -- new for the Hero 8 -- Narrow) while Capture Presets are exactly what they sound like: preset settings for popular use cases. GoPro cameras are great for hands-free, point-of-view recording — but that doesn’t mean they can replace a camcorder or larger DSLR or mirrorless camera. For advanced users, a GoPro’s lack of fully manual control may be problematic (you can set exposure compensation using the Protune feature, but you have no direct control over aperture and shutter speed). The lack of buttons and dials also means you’ll have to rely on the touchscreen or your smartphone to make changes, which is fine for set-it-and-forget-it adventure filming, but isn’t great if you need to make adjustments on the fly.

Once connected, however, any internet device can be seen by the on-line community, making it incumbent upon its manufacturer to design the device such that it can be properly secured for only intended use.Wifi enabled and Internet connected are two different things. Also the idea that 'any internet device can be seen by the on-line community' is like saying any car in a garage, could be driven by anyone with a license simply by virtue of it being a 'car'. Uhm, no. You need to get into the garage. People don't put their Ring devices on 'the internet'. They put them on their local networks, behind a router. Ring's problems are mainly that they don't force 2FA, allow more than one login to an account (HUGE issue) and allow continual failed logins without locking the account after a set number of attempts (Also HUGE issue, if not the WORST offense). But sadly the lawsuit barely mentions the latter two and instead focuses almost solely on the 2FA issue, which is where they are going to end up losing.Anyone can bring a suit up about ANYTHING and any lawyer will take it, because they usually don't do it on a pro bono basis so they get paid no matter what. But if you're going to sue Ring for negligence, at least hire a lawyer who knows what to sue them for. I'm not a fan of Ring, but these guys are barking up the wrong tree.
Frankly, we’re not bothered by the lack of 4K or high frame rates. For what action cameras are typically tasked with, 1080p is just fine — it’s the content that matters, not the pixels. Yes, we enjoy having the option for 4K when it’s there, but if you’re a casual user, you probably don’t need to worry about this. What’s more, 1080p means you can fit more footage onto the same MicroSD card, and it will take up less space on your phone or computer when you transfer it. This isn’t just a positive side-effect; it could be a real advantage for some users — the same users who would choose to set their Hero5 or Hero6 cameras to 1080p mode for this reason.

To be fair to GoPro I placed by order on Friday afternoon and everything arrived courtesy of UPS Thursday afternoon. If I wanted to be fussy the order wasn't shipped until Tuesday afternoon (from Holland) and the website said 2-3 day delivery time but it's in the busy Christmas period, we've had Black Friday and so everything must be running at full capacity. Either way I'm satisfied that the camera came within an acceptable time frame.

Leaving in voice control was also a good move, letting you say things like “GoPro, start recording” while bombing down a hill on your bicycle when you’d rather not take your hands off the handlebars.

What is a good cheap action camera?


To be clear, we’re not actually disappointed with the lack of options — just their presentation. If you’re an absolute beginner and, say, you want to make a time-lapse video, not having a choice over the shooting interval is a good thing. It’s liberating. Just put it into time-lapse mode and call it good. Experienced users know how to calculate the proper interval based on the total duration of the shot, the playback frame rate of the video, and the final runtime they want to end up with (yes, using math — gross). But if you just want a quick and fun time-lapse, you shouldn’t have to worry about any of that.

I urged them to get into it as I could use that money for the trip I have coming up (remember it was the money of two orderings). They told me then that they don't have a direct contact to their finance department and are not allowed to give me information about how to reach them. They just told me it should take like 2 days for them to deny the payment. It's been 4 days now and still nothing. No money back, no product, no reasons why all that happened and how to fix it. I mean why would a customer service not have contact to like any department within the company?! WORST purchasing experience I've ever had. Regarding customer-service they have to learn and improve like a LOT (should take Amazon, Zappos etc. as a role-model, as they're really concerned about customer experience and in solving your issue).
GoPro’s suite of portable apps is great, too. In the bit of downtime I had, I spent it transferring images and video to my phone and then knocking together an edit on Quik to share on social media. It made keeping people at home updated really easy (also known as #holidayspam). Updates including the new QuikStories are also great, and it’s pleasing to see GoPro’s continued support with improvements and fixes.

14 days later I still hadn’t heard anything, still no money taken from my account and still no news on my camera. I contacted support again who said I should have contacted them BEFORE the 14 days were up so they could follow up on my order. I asked them to check their records as that is exactly what I did, on 6th December. For this mishap they shipped me a free handler (which by some miracle arrived 2 days later). Still no news on the camera but I was assured an escalation was placed on my case so I trusted the process.

What is the best DSLR camera?


 I have been getting a lot of questions about which type of GoPro camera one should buy if interested. I first think it is great that you're looking into finally getting one, especially after watching the latest events on TV and all of the great camera angles they were able to capture of the professionals. I've had mine for 2 years and could not be any happier. Just last weekend I attached it to my dog on our hike and posted it to Facebook and got some likes from a few cute girls (because likes mean everything, right!?). I'll post the video later this week. I digress, and provide you with some tips when deciding to purchase your GoPro. We also highlighted the difference between the GoPro Hero 4 and 3+ cameras, so be sure to read that for some more help!

HyperSmooth, last year's flagship feature, is back and improved. HyperSmooth 2.0 (as GoPro is calling it) promises even better stabilization and now works across all resolutions and frame rates. This is great news, as you'll no longer have to decide between the type of shot you want or stabilization (including slo-mo). There's also a "Boost" mode that offers even more stable shots than the (now improved) default setting -- the trade-off being a little extra image cropping. More on this later.
Terrible customer service. I ordered the Hero 8 twice as he first order was cancelled by them. They told me there was a problem with my billing address, so I fixed that issue. After that, I did another order. However, they cancelled the order again. So, I reached out to them again to see what the problem was this time. Turned out they couldn't answer me that either and they have no visibility in why it got cancelled. I figured that I wouldn't get the cam on time for my upcoming trip, which was already very disappointing and annoying. Worse than that was that they don't really seem to care if I am or am not able to order from their website. I mean what am I supposed to do differently in my orderings if they keep cancelling them and not even the company itself can tell why.

How do I download GoPro app to my computer?


Since there’s an exposed cut-out on the side of the frame, you can actually remove the USB port cover – just remember to reattach it if you intend to use the camera in water. This means you don’t have to remove the camera from the frame to charge it, or if you need to power the camera for a long period – for a lengthy time-lapse video, for instance – while keeping it mounted.
Some GoPro cameras have user-replaceable batteries, and some don’t. If you need a camera for camping or several days away from home, you’re going to want the former. If you buy a GoPro camera with a swappable battery, you can keep extras with you, so you’ll never miss filming the perfect moment. On the other hand, if you’ll only be using your camera for an hour or two at a time, you can save money by getting a model without a user-replaceable battery.
